A waiting period is a specified amount of time that an individual must wait after enrolling in a health insurance policy before they can receive coverage for certain types of medical care. This waiting period is often put in place to protect the insurance provider from people who might try to sign up for coverage only when they need expensive medical treatments. Waiting periods can vary depending on the insurance policy and the type of medical care needed, but they typically range from a few months to a year. It’s important to carefully review the terms of your health insurance policy to understand what waiting periods, if any, may apply to your coverage.
